Hike and Havdalah for Tisha b’Av: Joint Commemoration with Congregations Beth Evergreen, B’nai Havurah, and B’nai Chaim

Saturday, August 6, 2022 9 Av 5782

7:00 PM - 9:00 PMMt Falcon Park, Walker House Ruins (West Trailhead!)

Tisha b’Av (9th day of the lunar month of Av) is traditionally a fast day commemorating the destruction[s] of the ancient Temple[s] in Jerusalem, as well as other tragedies in Jewish history.  At this gathering, we will identify and mourn our many, collective losses, and reflect upon the root causes (and preventative measures!) of the desecration and destruction of sanctuaries – social, national, spiritual, and environmental.

Meet at the WEST Trailhead of Mt. Falcon Park at 7:00 pm

Bring hiking apparel, water, a flashlight or headlamp (perhaps a candle), and, if desired, a camping chair.

Shortly after 7:00 pm, we will hike (@ 20 minutes or  0.5 miles, each way) from the WEST Trailhead down to the remains of the Walker House mansion.

At 7:30 pm, among the ruins, we will share melodies, a dialogue, some verses from the Book of Lamentations, and a short Havdalah service (minus the spices and wine).

Around 8:30 pm we will hike back to the parking lot at the trailhead (@ 20 minutes or 0.5 miles).
