The B’nai Havurah Library Committee is honored to host Paula Burger, world- renowned artist and author of the Holocaust memoir Paula’s Window: Papa, the Bielski Partisans and A Life Unexpected. Andrea Jacobs, senior writer at the Intermountain Jewish News, is the co-author. Paula was seven years old when the Nazis invaded her home town of Novogrudek, Poland. A year later, Paula’s father escaped the ghetto with his   children and joined the Bielski Partisans in the Naliboki Forest. In her book Paula describes horrible privation and fear as well as her growing love for the color and beauty of the forest.

Four years after the war the family immigrated to the United States, where at age 12 Paula was able to begin to pursue her passion for art. She went on to have careers in retail, real estate, and nursing home administration. After retirement she began to paint professionally. Her works are shown in galleries and collections throughout Colorado and the world.

Paula’s Window will be available for purchase at the Art and the Holocaust: Controversies and Consolations class on ​Thursday, March 26, 7:00 – 9:00 pm and at the Library Shabbat on April 1. the book may also be purchased prior to the event at local bookstores.
