November 6 is the yahrzeit of Mordecai Kaplan, z"l, founder of the Reconstructionist movement.
This musical Shabbat service will honor Rabbi Kaplan as we also remember longtime member (and avid student of Kaplan) Ed Towbin, z"l.
Risa Aqua will honor her dad's memory by leining from Parshat Toldot, and we'll engage in a lively Recon-style Torah discussion about sibling rivalry, deception, and red lentil stew.
B'nai Havurah and the family of Ed Towbin have established the Ed Towbin Fund for Reconstructionist Thought. Ed devoted much of his last decade of life to developing and sharing a liturgy centered on the energy of human connection rather than on a Divine source. This restricted fund will further Ed's work while strengthening our community and its unique identity. Mordecai Kaplan is the founder of the Reconstructionist movement and the primary source of inspiration for Ed's work.
Hamotzi and bracha (blessing for challah and wine/grape juice) will follow the service.
Attendees are welcome to join us for a discussion brought to us by Chachamim (Wise Guys). More information is just below, or you may click here.
