SECOND DAY ROSH HASHANAH

Join three dynamic front-range congregations on the banks of picturesque Lower Bear Creek to celebrate the Jewish New Year!

Share song, story, shofar blasts and breadcrumb tossing with members of Congregation Beth Evergreen (Evergreen), B’nai Havurah (Denver) and B’nai Chaim (Morrison) at Lair O’ the Bear Park for an outdoor Rosh Hashanah service. All are welcome.

Leadership of the service will be shared, and everyone in attendance will be invited to play a role. Facilitating the service will be Rabbi Jamie Arnold, Laura Berman, and Penny Drucker from Congregation Beth Evergreen; Hal Aqua from B’nai Havurah; and Rabbi/Cantor Kim Harris from B’nai Chaim. There will be lots of great music and opportunities for reflection and discussion.

An optional hike will run concurrently with the morning service, leaving at 10:00 am and returning in time for Tashlich.

SCHEDULE (approximate)

  • 9:30 am: Arrive, explore park, and help set up
  • 10:00 am: Hikers leave for optional hike
  • 10:00 am: Morning Service (waking to a new day and a new year with music, traditional and modern liturgical poetry, meditation, and gentle movement)
  • 10:45 am: Torah Service (reading from the Torah scroll the complex story of the binding and near sacrifice of Isaac)
  • 11:00 am: Shofar and Musaf Service (hearing the piercing calls of the ram’s horn and additional prayers)
  • 11:20 am: Tashlich Service (tossing regret-laden breadcrumbs into the creek, plus a few more songs)

TO ATTEND:

  • Advance registration is required. Please register by completing the form at Congregation Beth Evergreen's Website.
  • Prepare to be outside in the sun (and/or rain).
  • Bring your own seating (e.g. camping chairs).
  • Follow directions to the Lair o' the Bear Park, and to our meeting spot, by using the map and/or link below. The meeting spot is a short walk from the parking lot towards the creek, south of the parking lot. There is a clearing there, close to a nice shaded deck over the creek.
