Tzuris -- what's the point? Hike and Havdalah for Tisha b’Av

Saturday, August 6, 2022 9 Av 5782

7:00 PM - 9:00 PMMt Falcon Park, Walker House Ruins (West Trailhead!)

Tisha b'Av (the ninth of the month of Av) is not often on the radar for progressive Jews.... a fast day to remind ourselves of all the awful things that have happened to us throughout history? Do we really need the tzuris?

But we process trauma best when we do it together, in community. Rather than dwelling on our losses and pain as individuals, we can find healing energy and support with one another and work towards healing psychic wounds both old and new.

Let's step out of our daily routines for a few hours this Saturday evening, find solace in nature, and gather with like-minded folks for a different take on Tisha b'Av. Our facilitators -- Rabbi Jamie Arnold and Laura Berman (Beth Evergreen), Rabbi Kim Harris (B'nai Chaim), and Hal Aqua (B'nai Havurah) -- will lead us gently in singing, meditation, and discussion as we delve into ancient traditions in contemporary ways.

Meet at the WEST Trailhead of Mt. Falcon Park at 7:00 pm
Castle Trail, Morrison, CO 80465

Bring hiking apparel, water, a flashlight or headlamp (perhaps a candle), and, if desired, a camping chair.

Shortly after 7:00 pm, we will hike (@ 20 minutes or  0.5 miles, each way) from the WEST Trailhead down to the remains of the Walker House mansion.

At 7:30 pm, among the ruins, we will share melodies, a dialogue, some verses from the Book of Lamentations, and a short Havdalah service (minus the spices and wine).

Around 8:30 pm we will hike back to the parking lot at the trailhead (@ 20 minutes or 0.5 miles).

All are welcome! Please register below.
