Shabbat Babayit (Shabbat in the Home) and Havdalah Babayit
Friday, July 21, 2023 • 3 Av 5783
6:00 PM - 8:30 PMAND SATURDAY JULY 22 - Various locations and times
As a feature of our Deepening Connections campaign, Shabbat Babayit (Shabbat in the Home) provides an opportunity for connection by sharing a Shabbat meal with others in a welcoming home hosted by members of our community. There is also an option to share dinner and celebrate Havdalah. We hope you'll take this opportunity to create new friendships!
SHABBAT DINNERS HOSTED BY COMMUNITY MEMBERS
We've included information about our six featured dinners, including our hosts' general location, meal preferences, and interests. We omitted other details, such as the exact address and the names of our hosts for security reasons. We encourage you to make your selection based on the geography and interests of our hosts and be open to meeting new people.
Thank you to our hosts of Shabbat Babayit and Havdalah Babayit who are helping us with opportunities for members to create new friendships and share the beauty of Shabbat and Havdalah!
HOW TO MAKE YOUR SELECTION
After reviewing each of the Shabbat dinners below, offered on July 21 and 22, click on the link provided and register. Upon registration you will receive confirmation of the specific dinner you are attending. If you have any trouble signing in or registering, please contact the office at (303-388-4441 or office@bnaihavurah.org), Laurie Cohn (lauriecohnbnai@gmail.com) or Debbie Goodman (debbielgoodman@comcast.net).
The dinners for Shabbat and Havdalah Babayit will accommodate anywhere from 4 to 12 guests, so we encourage you to register soon.
INCLUSIVITY
We include and celebrate all of our community members. Some homes may not be fully accessible to those who use a cane or wheelchair. Also, not all community members have a means of transportation to dinner. If you have questions regarding the accessibility of a home or need a lift, don't hesitate to contact Laurie Cohn (lauriecohnbnai@gmail.com), Debbie Goodman (debbielgoodman@comcast.net) or Director of Administration Laura Intfen (director@bnaihavurah.org).
Dinner One
Shabbat Babayit - Southmoor Park (Hampden and Monaco)
Friday, July 21 – 6:00 pm
We love our Southmoor Park home, along with our canine friend. We will be serving a fish or chicken meal and are looking forward to having you as guests – we love to entertain. We also love watching movies – at home or out – especially film noir. Whenever we travel, we look for unusual or out-of-the-way things to do. Soon we are going to Boone, Iowa, for a rail car expedition (it’s like a dune buggy with wheels that fit on a train track powered by our pedaling to keep it going; or maybe we’ll let the small motor do the work—it’s 12 miles through Iowa farm country!). Please park in our driveway or on the street. Unfortunately, our home is not easily accessible for those who use a cane or wheelchair. This dinner is for those 18 and older. Please join us! Dinner Two
Havdalah Babayit - West Highland (Northside)
Saturday, July 22 – 6:00 pm
We, and our dog, recently moved here, and we enjoy all things Denver! We love going to museums and restaurants, and taking nice walks around the city. We are looking forward to this dinner, since we enjoy meeting new people and conversation. We will be serving fish, probably salmon, and ask our guests to bring either an appetizer, salad, or dessert for 8. Please park anywhere except on our side of the street (permit parking only after 5:00 pm). There are several steps going up to our house from the street; only 1 step from the alleyway, but a car cannot be left there—so our home is not easily accessible for those who use a cane or wheelchair. This dinner is for those 18 and older. We hope you join us--and hope to eat outside.

Dinner Three
Shabbat Babayit - Hilltop
Friday, July 21—6:30 pm
Our Hilltop home is on a quiet street. One very sweet cat resides in our household. We plan to serve fish or chicken and we ask our guests to bring a salad or dessert for 4. We are very committed to progressive Judaism, and other interests include politics, music, the arts, fashion, crafts, and running. We love to sing Shabbat songs, and the most important feature of our household is laughter. There is street parking on the block, and guests are welcome to park in the driveway as well. Our home is accessible for those with canes, but, unfortunately, not for wheelchairs. There is a total of 3 low steps (in 3 different places) to navigate to enter the house. We are excited to welcome you to our home for Shabbat, and to experience a warm and lively Shabbat together. Children are welcome! CLICK HERE TO SIGN UP
Dinner Four
Shabbat Babayit - Winston Downs (Virginia Vale/Washington)
Friday, July 21—6:00 pm
Our house is in a quiet neighborhood and we have no pets. Community is very important to us, and we enjoy being with friends and meeting new people. We will be serving either meat, fish, or chicken, and we would appreciate a challah (especially homemade!), and feel free to bring a bottle of your favorite wine. We are proud grandparents of two grandchildren--we never spend enough time with them! We have many things we like to do in our free time, such as helping immigrants study for US citizenship tests, and writing a young adult Fantasy/SciFi book. We are excited to tell you about our chimpanzee trekking in Gombe National Park, Tanzania, where Jane Goodall conducted research! There is street parking and guests can park in the driveway as well. Our home is accessible for those with canes, but, unfortunately, not for wheelchairs. This dinner is for those 18 and older. We look forward to welcoming you to our home for Shabbat! Dinner Five
Shabbat Babayit - Platt Park
Friday, July 21 - 5:30 pm
Our household includes two children, as well as a dog and cat. Your children are welcome to join us. Dinner will be vegetarian friendly, including child friendly vegetarian entrees. Guests are asked to bring wine or jive, challah, salad, or dessert. We like to bike and camp in the summer. We also enjoy board games and video games. One of the kids is preparing for his Bar Mitzvah. There is parking on the street. There are 3 steps to the porch. Our home is unfortunately not accessible for wheelchairs or those using canes. We look forward to welcoming you to our home for Shabbat!

Dinner Six
Havdalah Babayit —Willow Creek in Centennial
Saturday, July 22 - 7:00 pm
Our family includes two children—one in elementary school and another in middle school—and we are happy to welcome your children to our home. We don’t have any pets. Dinner will be kosher and vegetarian friendly. We ask our guests to bring salad, dessert, or vegetarian side dishes. Some of our interests are baseball, music, gardening, and cooking. There is plenty of parking available on the street. Our home is accessible for those with canes, but not for a wheelchair, as there are a couple of small steps leading to the front door. Please join us for the beautiful Havdalah ceremony that marks the conclusion of Shabbat. We look forward to welcoming you to our home.

There is no cost to attend this event, though some of our dinners request that guests bring a dish to share. Given that there are a limited number of "seats at the table", we suggest you sign up soon. And, if you find that the dinner you hoped to attend is full, you have three options: sign up for a different dinner; add your name on the waiting list for the dinner you hoped to attend; or wait until the next time we offer Shabbat and Havdalah Babayit.
