Chachamim ("Wise Ones") Film Viewing ("Hester Street") and Discussion with Dick Reinish

Thursday, November 13, 2025 22 Cheshvan 5786

1:00 PM - 4:00 PMB'nai East (6445 E. Ohio Ave.)

Because of Thanksgiving and other considerations we are meeting on the 2 nd Thursday of the month in November (instead of the 4 th Thursday).

Please join our Chachamim ("Wise Ones") group for a film showing and discussion with Dick Reinish.  Because the film, "Hester Street," is almost 2 hours long we plan to begin at 1 pm sharp and meet for 2 ½ hours.

"Hester Street" is a 1975 American comedy drama film based on Abraham Cahan's 1896 novella “ Yekl: A Tale of the New York Ghetto,” adapted and directed by Joan Micklin Silver. The film tells the story of Jewish immigrants who come to the Lower East Side of NewYork City in 1896 from Eastern Europe, and who live on Hester Street in Manhattan.

In 2011, "Hester Street" was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant."

Dick Reinish is a retired Chicago lawyer who, along with his wife Barbara, moved to Denver in 2012.  He has led discussions for DU’s OLLI program on foreign films and documentary films for 11 years and has also led a dozen or more films for B’nai. He is a big sports fan.
