Shabbat Babayit (Shabbat in the Home)
Friday, March 31, 2023 • 9 Nisan 5783
5:30 PM - 8:30 PMVarious locations and times
As a feature of our Deepening Connections campaign, Shabbat Babayit (Shabbat in the Home) provides an opportunity for connection by sharing a Shabbat meal with others in a welcoming home hosted by members of our community. We hope you'll take this opportunity to create new friendships!
SHABBAT DINNERS HOSTED BY COMMUNITY MEMBERS
We've included information about our six featured dinners, including our hosts' general location, meal preferences, and interests. We omitted other details, such as the exact address and the names of our hosts for security reasons. We encourage you to make your selection based on the geography and interests of our hosts and be open to meeting new people.
Thank you to our hosts of Shabbat Babayit, who have agreed to help us launch what we hope is the first of many opportunities for members to create new friendships and share the beauty of Shabbat!
HOW TO MAKE YOUR SELECTION
After reviewing each of the Shabbat dinners below, offered on March 31, click on the link provided and register. Upon registration you will receive confirmation of the specific Shabbat dinner you are attending. As we get closer to March 31, we will provide you with additional details, including the identity of your hosts! We are waiting to give you this information in a separate email for security reasons.
The dinners for Shabbat Babayit will accommodate anywhere from four to 12 guests, so we encourage you to register soon.
INCLUSIVITY
We include and celebrate all of our community members. Some homes may not be fully accessible to those who use a cane or wheelchair, while other homes are fully accessible. Also, not all community members have a means of transportation to dinner. If you have questions regarding the accessibility of a home or need a lift, don't hesitate to contact Laurie Cohn (lauriecohnbnai@gmail.com) or Becky Epstein (exec@bnaihavurah.org / 720-327-5394.)
Shabbat Babayit One - Platt Park, Kid-Friendly
5:30 pm
Our Platt Park home is very close to B’nai West. We have both a cat and a small dog, separated from our guests. We’ll be serving kid-friendly vegetarian options. Our family is mom (me) and two children who are 12 and 8. We’ll be learning some Shabbat traditions as we go.( Our family does not typically perform the rituals for Shabbat.) There is plenty of street parking and a three-step staircase to enter our house. Children are welcome. We’ll be glad to meet you.

Shabbat Babayit Two: Home with Lively Teens
5:30 pm
Our Southwest-Denver household includes some lively teens, and we would love to welcome more teens for Shabbat. (We also have an adorable doodle-mix dog.) We plan to serve a meat main course with veggie options (one of us is a vegetarian). There is plenty of parking here, but there is a flight of stairs leading to our front door, so guests using a cane or wheelchair will not want to join us. A little more about us: we love all kinds of board games and we are enjoying the new show Poker Face. Children are welcome. Please join us on the 31st!

Shabbat Babayit Three: Warm Hospitality and Humor
6:00 pm
We are a couple who live in Washington Virginia Vale (near George Washington HS) with our pampered pup (who may be separated from us during dinner). Along with our warm hospitality and humor, we'll provide a chicken dish as the main course, challah, and beverages (with and without alcohol), and ask that our guests bring a potluck side dish to share. Some of our interests include 1960s folk music, gardening/landscaping, religious history, and classic cars. We have steps up to our door. We enjoy entertaining and look forward to sharing Shabbat with you.

Shabbat Babayit Four: Relax with Friends and a View
6:30 pm
Relax and unwind with me in my condo with a city and park view in the Washington Park neighborhood. The menu includes fish (salmon) or chicken, salad and other veggies, and dessert. A non-alcoholic alternative to wine will be available. Though not required, you're welcome to bring a salad, veggies or dessert and may make a selection in the registration form below. I’m passionate about people and enjoy music (especially classical) and live theater. As a life-long learner, I’m curious about many things and an avid reader. This dinner is for those 18 and older. I’m looking forward to meeting you!

Shabbat Babayit Five: A gardener, a chef and sport fans walk into a.......
6:00 pm
Our home in the Southeast metro area includes a gardener, a chef, and several avid sports fans. We have two school-age kids and would love to have others join us for the evening. We are hosting a vegetarian potluck; dairy is fine, but no meat. You will be able to sign up to bring an item when you register. We don’t have any dogs or cats, since keeping up with two kids keeps us very busy! There is a step up to the front door and plenty of street parking in our neighborhood. Children are welcome. Hope you can join us!

Shabbat Babayit Six: Mini Doodle is Fan of Homemade Challah
6:30 pm
The first thing you may notice about our Congress Park Mission Arts and Crafts home is its art and treasures. We are friendly, interested, and great listeners looking forward to connecting with our guests. We are long-time B'nai members. Our son and grandsons were members and had their bar mitzvahs at B'nai. We will serve a chicken or fish dinner along with homemade challah. Our Mini Golden doodle is just the size for this eclectic and active home, not to mention their challah. There are a few steps up to our entrance, with parking available in front of the house. This dinner is for those 18 and older.

There is no cost to attend this event, though some of our dinners request that guests bring a dish to share. Given that there are a limited number of "seats at the table", we suggest you sign up soon. And, if you find that the dinner you hoped to attend is full, you have three options: sign up for a different dinner; add your name on the waiting list for the dinner you hoped to attend; or wait until the next time we offer Shabbat Babayit.
