There is something healthy and therapeutic about pausing every year and taking stock of ourselves, but what are we seeking when we come together to ask for S'lichot (forgiveness)? Are we asking forgiveness for the same mistakes year after year? Or are we asking ourselves: Have we done enough? Is there more we should be doing? Are we asking that of ourselves only as individuals, or are we questioning the role we each play in our communities and our greater society? What better year than 2020 to ask of ourselves: Have we done enough, and what more can we do in the years ahead?
