The Problem—and Solution—of Moses' Mouth: What happened between Exodus 6:30, when Moses tells God that Moses' lips are “uncircumcised," and Exodus 7:1, when God states that Moses is now "god to Pharaoh"? Quite a leap. To help us understand the great change that occurs between these short verses, the Library Committee has invited Professor Amy Balogh to share some of her recent book, Moses among the Idols: Mediators of the Divine in the Ancient Near East.

To learn more about this mysterious transformation, please join the Library Committee and Professor Balogh for our annual Library Shabbat. She will offer us a d'var during services and spend more time with us after kiddush.

Thank you to our Shabbat and Kiddush sponsors, our Library Committee

Amy L. Balogh, Ph.D., is Program Manager at the Center for Judaic Studies at the University of Denver, and an adjunct lecturer for the Department of Religious Studies. She also teaches through the Colorado College Department of Religion and Regis University College of Professional Studies.

Her teaching, research, and publication all bring new insight to the study of the Hebrew Bible and the ancient Near East by applying methods from the fields of anthropology and religious studies in a way that complements traditional biblical studies methods while also furthering the field’s ability to gain insight into the inner workings of the ancient religious imagination.

Her methodological focus is comparison as exemplified in her recently published monograph Moses among the Idols: Mediators of the Divine in the Ancient Near East (Lexington Books, 2018).
