Little White Lie

With the freezing weather and Covid restrictions keeping many of us at home, we are pleased to introduce our film discussion group, B’nai Reel Time.

Please join us for our first monthly B’nai Reel Time film on January 2 at 6:00 p.m.--Lacey Schwartz’s documentary, Little White Lie—followed by discussion at 7:15 facilitated by Joan Wallis and Sharon Haber.  You may also watch it at your leisure on Kanopy (through your county library), You Tube, or Amazon Prime, or maybe other streaming services, and just join us for the discussion.

Little White Lie, a film by Lacey Schwartz, is about “family secrets, denial, dual identity, and the power of telling the truth.”  Little White Lie tells Lacey Schwartz’s story of growing up in a typical upper-middle-class Jewish household in New York, with a strong sense of her Jewish identity—despite the open questions from those around her about how a white girl could have such dark skin. Lacey does not learn until she is a young woman that her biological father was a black man with whom her mother had an affair.  Lacey struggles to come to terms with her upbringing and identity.  66 minutes, English, 2014.  Trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qxHLpgYwcVY.
