ADULT B'NAI MITZVAH IS HERE!

3:00 PM - 4:00 PMVirtual for nowThe class will run for six months starting April 25, 2021, and will culminate in a group-led B'nai Mitzvah service and celebration on November 20, 2021.
In the first of the two monthly classes, we will study the following:
The arc of the Jewish shacharit (Saturday morning) service
Prayers: basic vocabulary, basic grammar, reconstructing
Torah content and meaning: How to approach a Torah portion; how to prepare a Devar Torah and Torah discussion
Torah leining (chanting)
In the second monthly class, we will mostly sing together, practicing various songs, blessings and prayers; improving our familiarity, pronunciation, understanding and fluency; and experiencing the exhilaration of singing in community.
For those who would like to learn to read Hebrew independently, Risa will offer limited individual coaching (included in fee). If students wish to have additional instruction in Hebrew or leining, they may hire any tutor at their own expense.

Program fee:
Members - $225
Friends of B'nai (non-members) - $400
(You are welcome to divide your class fee into several payments though require that all payments are finished by the end of 2021.
We will do our best to accommodate those seeking a scholarship for the program, though there is no guarantee.
There is an established class minimum.)

Risa Aqua has been a member of B’nai Havurah since childhood.
She has been teaching Hebrew for over 30 years, and preparing
folks (mostly children) for B’nai Mitzvah for the past 15.
She’s developed effective strategies for teaching prayer, Hebrew
and Torah chanting to people of all abilities, aiming for challenge
and growth without stress or embarrassment.
She loves this work and is looking forward to this class.
