Tikun Olam
Tikun Olam is the imperative to repair the world, so that it reflects
the divine values of Justice (tzedek), Compassion (hesed), and Peace
(shalom).
The Tikun Olam committee
has been meeting over the past year and is pleased to announce that
it will be sponsoring several projects that
will give our members the opportunity to engage in repairing the world
as a B’nai Havurah community. Building on the Habitat for Humanity
project completed last year, we chose housing as our focus for study
and action. We encourage you look over the following projects, share
the information with your Havurah, and consider joining one of the projects
as a Havurah, as individuals, or as families.
Also, please consider getting involved in the causes listed in the box to the right.

In support of the Mayor's Initiative to put families into apartments, Jim and Pam Gutman are mentoring a single mom with two young children, and B'nai Havurah is providing 6 months of mentoring and help. In addition, the family needs kitchen items and table and chairs.
Using craigslist, donations from Leah and Nancy McCahill, used furniture stores, and buying new we have now provided Jessica with beds, nightstands, lamps, sleeper sofa, living room chairs, end table, bigger TV, child’s dresser, small vacuum cleaner, kitchen garbage can, massage chair and a small dining table. However, no dining room chairs or dresser for her. She really needs kitchen utensils, Tupperware, baking pans, cookware, decent knives, and other kitchen items. I bought her some silverware last week. She still does not have many toys, games, puzzles, books, pretend play items for her 2 ˝ year old daughters who is very bright. She is more like a 3 year old at least. Really need a child size table and chairs and a booster chair for when we get dining chairs. They have to eat on the floor. She does not need any more televisions or beds. Even small money donations are useful so can buy her some needed items.
For more information call Jim Gutman at 303-570-0515. Jim and Pam can pick up and deliver most items. Thank you for any help you can give!

The Interfaith Hospitality Network’s mission is to enable interfaith
and community response to families who become homeless by providing shelter,
meals, comprehensive assistance and encouragement toward self-reliance
in an atmosphere of warmth and hospitality.
Several times a year, BH volunteers prepare and serve dinner or Saturday
morning Breakfast at Calvary Baptist Church. They help to set up the facility;
arrange special activities for three to five guest families - up to one
host/family for each guest family; stay overnight with the guests (one
male and one female); supervise child-friendly activities one evening;
or clean up and transport beds and luggage on Sunday morning.

Chair: Nancy McCahill
Along with 12 other faith communities, B'nai Havurah is a member of Interfaith Alliance, in partnership with Habitat for Humanity. Once a year our community volunteers on the building of a home and during the year we promote activities that help raise monies to fund the build. Our younger kids have helped sell pumpkins at the pumpkin patch that raises money for our cause, members have provided soups at the annual soup cook-off, and many members have picked up a hammer or drill in the actual construction process.
If you have any questions concerning the upcoming build or fundraisers, Nancy McCahill can be reached at 303-841-7504 or on my cell at 720-936-7504.
