Monday, November 3, 2014 10 Cheshvan 5775

7:00 PM - 8:30 PMB'nai Havurah, 6445 East Ohio Avenue, Denver, CO 80224

Western European art can tell us how Jewish-Christian relations changed during the Middle Ages. Because of the Second Commandment (“no graven images”) there was almost no religious Jewish art, while Christians used art as an essential part of their religious activities. This presentation describes and analyzes the art of the Roman catacombs, medieval mosaics and Gothic stained glass, and shows how Christianity adapted and reinterpreted the Jewish scriptures. Facilitator: Henry Claman, MD, an international leader in the fields of microbiology and immunology, is a man of diverse interests and a favorite speaker on topics ranging from basic science to modern art. Dr. Claman served as Head of the Division of Allergy and Immunology at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center for 25 years and was named a Distinguished Professor of the University of Colorado.
