12:00 PM - 1:00 PMB'nai Havurah

Dr. Evelyn Hutt will be speaking about the Mbale Regional Referral Hospital (MRRH) Palliative Care Outreach Program, that creatively uses volunteers to provide palliative care to a diverse population in villages in East Central Uganda. The population serves includes an indigenous Jewish Community, the Abayudaya. All are welcome, no reservations required. The MRRH Palliative Care Outreach Program is funded in part by a Tikkun Olam Grant from B’nai Havurah.

Evelyn Hutt is a long-time member of the Denver Jewish Community and a palliative care physician.  In 2013 she went on sabbatical to Uganda’s indigenous Jewish community, the Abayudaya, with a goal of helping them access hospice and palliative care services.  The Abayudaya community is 100 years old and currently numbers approximately 2000 people living in 8 villages in the Mbale Region. As in the rest of Sub-Saharan Africa, access to appropriate pain management and hospice care is severely limited. The Mbale Regional Referral Hospital Palliative Care Outreach Program resulted from her work there in 2013-14.
